About the event
Are you interested in working more closely with people with disability? Do you want to find out more about developing and designing programs for people with disability? How are you going with your Disability Action Plan?
DARE (Disability Aware & Ready to Engage) is a Disability Awareness Education program that is provided free to community and neighbourhood houses, cultural, sporting and leisure groups by Westgate Community Initiatives Group Inc. (WCIG).
DARE shifts the emphasis away from the negatives of people with disability to the positives. DARE informs you on the benefits of having a diverse community and will dispel the myths and misconceptions of disability. DARE’s vision is for people with disability to have access to all of the community, just like everyone else. One in five people live with disability in Australia. Many more people have family, friends or work with people with disability. DARE gives you a chance to open your mind and doors to ALL people. Taking the step to be DisABILTY Aware and Ready to Engage can let your members, customers, clients and the community know you:
- Are improving service by being disability confident
- Promote inclusion in your organisation
- Have a diverse community environment
- Want to build your profile in your local area
The workshop will include information about:
- National Disability Insurance Scheme (NDIS)
- Myths and misconceptions of disability
- Access and Inclusion
- Preparing your Personal Planning Page
- Begin planning your Disability Action Plan
- Disability Act and Human Rights
This workshop will be delivered by trainer Suzanne Diprose. The workshop is free for anyone from a Neighbourhood House or other NFP community organisation or group.
