Community and cultural connecting in Yack

5 Aug 2024

On a cool May day, community members gathered under the big old oak tree, added in cultural connections by including a welcome to country song and a didgeridoo performance to close formalities. This was beautifully performed by Jon Juda from Spirit of the Didge. It had a great vibe and the community spirit lifted!

Yackandandah Community Centre (YCC) opened its doors in May to welcome the community in for a delicious morning tea, with the aim to encourage community networking and connection in a warm and welcoming environment.

“YCC runs an annual local grants program, distributing the funds generated from our Op Shop back into the community”, said manager Jane Murphy. “We invited the grant recipients to our Open House and asked them to speak about the project or program that the YCC helped fund.

The different community groups and voices came together to share the news of all the good work that has recently happened in our little town (largely by not-for-profit, volunteer lead groups!)”
