Partnerships Strengthen Community Response to Scams

22 Sept 2025

Scam information session exceeded expectations in Yarrawonga

Yarrawonga Mulwala Community & Learning Centre (YMCLC) and Central Murray Bank joined forces during Scam Awareness Week to host a well-attended community information session on scams. The partnership, sparked through a shared community connection, reflected a strong local response to a growing issue affecting people of all ages.

The event brought together guest speakers from Services Australia, Victoria Police and Central Murray Bank, who shared practical tools to help participants recognise, question and avoid scams. More than 75 people attended, filling the room to capacity and sharing their own experiences, which highlighted just how widespread the issue is.

Community Support Officer, Kellie Robilliard, said the evening exceeded expectations: “Not only did people learn from the panel, but so many shared their own experiences.” The strong turnout and ongoing conversations since the event show the power of local partnerships to meet community needs and build confidence in seeking help without stigma.
