Connecting with young people can be challenging! Read how they're doing it at Tallangatta Neighbourhood House.
Over recent months Tallangatta Neighbourhood House has been focusing on connecting local teenagers to the neighbourhood house.
“We have always had good engagement from Primary School age children with our after-school and holiday programs but this was not the case with our teens,” said Manger, Katherine Lanigan.
“We are working on a range of projects with the Vocational Major students from Tallangatta Secondary College including:
• Monthly Know Your Gizmo sessions to help community members use their digital devices
• Assisting Community Share Garden members with garden projects and upkeep
• Development and roll-out of a teens survey to assist the House with future programming
“We have developed our #stuff4teens program running free activities for 13 to 17 years olds only. Our recent movie night with takeaway tea was well attended and our next event will be a console gaming night. We are working on getting the teens involved with planning and organising events.”
A group of local teens assisted a local artist with the installation of a colourful mural on the Neighbourhood House wall made from 1800 plastic bottle tops donated by community members.
